Blessed Are the Imperfect

Matthew 4:1-11

In repentance, we acknowledge our limitations, our humanity, our failures, and our sins, and we recognize our utter dependence on God for every breath.

In the wilderness, the perfect Son of God demonstrates to broken humanity that we are perfectly designed to need God’s love and care.

Most often, our strivings for perfection are failed attempts to manage our pain, our shame, and our fear.

The wilderness can be a place of testing that can yield tremendous spiritual growth.

When you find yourself in the wilderness, focus on welcoming God’s good and loving purposes for you rather than finding the quickest way out.

Wilderness experiences provide opportunities for us to adjust our hearing so that we can better distinguish God’s voice from others.

God’s purpose in testing is to strengthen us.  Satan’s purpose is to entice us to sin and to challenge God’s sovereign plan for us.

God has given us His Word so that we can wield it as a sword against Satan and his kingdom of darkness in our times of need.

Satan loves to offer us shortcuts out of the wilderness.  But these shortcuts seek to sidestep God’s good plans and purposes for us.

Just as Jesus relied on His Father and His Word, we are called to move from the façade of self-sufficiency to a deep dependence on God.
