So we are inclined to be generous toward others in return. Our generosity is fueled by our gratitude to God. (2 Corinthians 9:6-7). Generosity is not natural—it is a learned behavior, and is an important aspect of our discipleship to Jesus. Each opportunity we act on to be generous is a step towards becoming more like God. Generosity breaks the power of materialism and declares the true location of our hearts (Matthew 6:21). God also gives the very best—he does not give leftovers. Similarly, we too are called to give the first and the best of all that we receive (Proverbs 3:9-10). As we do so, we find our own lives enriched (Proverbs 11:24-25).
