READ | Philippians 2:1-4

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

CONSIDER

Read the passage focusing on the if-then message in verses 1 and 2. Note that in verses 3 and 4, the tone changes to a directive about behaviors that demonstrate unity in Christ, sharing in the spirit, tenderness, compassion, and love.

Consider what setting aside selfish ambition and vain conceit and walking in humility might look like in your day-to-day experience of life. What challenges or barriers interfere with choosing humility and putting others first in your life?

ASK

Pray for a humble spirit aligned with Christ’s love:

“Holy Lord God, who sent your only Son, Jesus Christ, to be crucified for our sins, have mercy upon me. May I follow in His example, leading and loving in great humility. Help me to be humble and gracious in every interaction, patient, loving and kind. I humble myself before you, Lord, for I am nothing without you. I long to serve you, Lord, and follow in your way. Amen.”
