READ: Matthew 6:17-18
But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Consider the life of Jesus, and that Lent is connected with the 40-day fast that Jesus did. He did not eat any food and was tempted by Satan. As followers of Jesus, we are invited to live a lifestyle that mirror’s Christ, and so fasting is an invitation to draw nearer to God by being like Christ.
A pastor asked a professional race car driver what the biggest thing people don’t understand about going fast, and his response was using the brakes. He said that proper braking is the key to going fast.
Take a few minutes and ask God to show you where you may need to apply the brakes better in your life? Spend some time listening to Him, and write down whatever comes to mind. Talk to God about what role these things play in your life and if you feel him inviting you to make any changes, what would that look like?
