Introduction to the Lenten Devotional Guide

Christianity is an ancient faith. In our modern and progress-driven world, living our fast-paced and hyper-connected lives, it can be easy to forget that. In The Mystery of Faith, we will explore the historically central Christian beliefs as expressed in the oldest written confession of our faith, the Apostle’s Creed. Christianity is, at its heart, a confession, not an explanation. Rather than trying to lay out a full teaching of doctrine through this message and devotional series, we invite you to enter deeper into the wonderful mystery of our faith.

The Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried;

he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again;

he ascended into heaven,

he is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting.

Amen.
